Hats or Fasinators for Royal Ascot? 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 5
Hi, i'm off to Royal Ascot on Friday and every year i wear a hat, and it is always v windy and is expected to be so again!

Are Fasinators better than hats in this type of weather?

I just love hats so I'd be wearing a hat windy or not. Saying that last time I went on Ladies Day it poured with rain and my hat got ruined. I'm wearing a fasinator at my son's wedding next month for the first time purely because my silk jacket has quite a high collar and a hat would be annoying. Also the fasinator was a perfect match colourwise.

Big purge this year on dress code at Ascot, apparently. Facinators allowed as long as they are 'substantial.' What does that mean, I wonder?!

Hi Sue

The dress code currently is only restricted to the Royal Enclosure and it is not just hats but also, there is a minimum width of strap for dresses which is 1inch and also, reading online today, they may even refuse those with streaky fake tans!!!!

Unfortunately i am not in the royal enclosure,my fasinator is substantial and the strap width is acceptable,

Dress wise, gone away from what i normally wear and been adventurous, Nina can explain if she wants!!!

Going on Friday (catherine)

Have a lovely time, I'm sure you will look fabulous - I personally think that facinators are pretty good with short hair - they're quite sassy too - and much cheaper - no brainer really!

Thanks Sharon, call me vain, but i certainly have not forked out a fortune for the dress, shoes, jewellery etc, to hide underneath a large hat, (even though hats suit me)! As you always say, make sure people notice you!!!

What are your views on the fake tan debate?
