Motivating our children for their futurePosted by Emmawhite in myblog |
A recent study by the Learning Skill Council (LSC) have found that a fifth of Surrey Teenagers believe that education is not important for achieving their goals.
Nearly 8 out of 10 respondents said they know that a high level of education or skills is a key to securing their dream job. So why did 64% of respondents say they would prefer to trust their natural ability, rather than working hard to secure the current qualifications or skills required to achieve their ambitions.
Young people entering the world of work are stepping into the unknown and competition for quality roles are fierce. Recruiters are increasingly worried about the expertise of future employable generations and are significantly frustrated at the quality of young people entering the job market. No matter how intelligent a young person is they only need to have a couple of knock backs from unsuccessful applications or interviews to progressively become despondent and lose motivation. Damaging self-esteem in ones capabilities can continue to reduce the likely success at an interview.
If this sounds familiar, I have developed a unique coaching programme called My Dream Career and is aimed at young people aged between 16-24 trying to decide on next educational steps or to enter the scary world of work. The programme builds self-esteem and confidence in communicating their employable strengths and helps them to identify potential career paths that are best suited to them. The programme finally helps young people to build a comprehensive next step plan which can include further training options or a job searching strategies to help them productively take control of their future.
