Celebrating our Individuality

It may seem obvious to point out that each and every one of us is unique.  However, it is also human nature to compare ourselves to others.  Admiring other people’s talents and personality traits is a positive form of comparison.  Naturallywe can be inspired to change our thought processes and behaviours to adopt these likeable talents and traits. This is a known and effective form of self-development.

To negatively compare ourselves to others we begin to either judge ourselves or judge others. This is a damaging form of comparison and can result or be a result of low self –esteem and confidence.

In this article I want you to focus on yourself and discover the amazing qualities that you have to offer your partner, children, employer, friends and society as a whole. By understanding your core strengths and how to communicate them effectively you will be able to develop and utilise them in all areas of your life. If you are someone who negatively compares yourself with others, this exercise will increase your confidence and self-esteem in your capabilities.

Spend some time over the next day, week and month reflecting and answering the following exercises:

Key achievements: Look back over your life and identify your key achievements.  Describe the situation and what you did or what skills you used to achieve it?

Activities that you excel at: Think about situations where you have achieved outstanding results.  Describe the situation and what you did or what skills and talents did you use to achieve it?

Overcoming challenges: Consider key challenges you have had to face or are currently facing? What personality traits and skills did you tap into which got you through?

Interests and hobbies: What interests, passions, hobbies and sports do you enjoy? Why do you enjoy them?  What skills and talents do you use when you are participating?

If you have found this exercise has provided you with insight into your key talents and you want to explore these further. Or if you want to discover career paths and roles that utilise these strengths to full effect then Please contact me emmawhite@lifes-abreeze.co.uk alternatively visit my website at www.lifes-abreeze.co.uk
